So it'd have to be segments (like bloopers) which can work regardless of whether all the spellers featured are still competing.Adam B.noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3953654.post-71920417676171384222013-05-31T11:49:05.192-04:002013-05-31T11:49:05.192-04:00They could film some extra segments that would be ...They could film some extra segments that would be filler if they need it, but they could cut if they didn't have time. Don't suppose they'd be that flexible, but that would be a way of making sure that TV scheduling didn't rule who gets to compete in the finals.Genevievenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3953654.post-48613218811938070242013-05-31T10:52:51.994-04:002013-05-31T10:52:51.994-04:00I assume most of the filler -- the speller profile...I assume most of the filler -- the speller profiles -- will always be there. Sure, "reporters' hair over the years" can go, but that's not the majority of the segments.Adam B.noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3953654.post-90059225664885483322013-05-31T10:37:21.288-04:002013-05-31T10:37:21.288-04:00I agree with everything you said, except for the c...I agree with everything you said, except for the comment about the duration of the final rounds - there was a ridiculous amount of filler in that broadcast. Given that they clearly control the difficulty of the words to create more or fewer eliminations in a round, they easily could have eliminated some of that filler and had more spellers. This didn't feel like an interminable set of rounds, and we got relatively little back and forth with the last few spellers. It certainly wasn't a "they just won't die" king of competition.Marshanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3953654.post-70778806555939022202013-05-31T10:27:26.715-04:002013-05-31T10:27:26.715-04:00If we could make the Bee look more like a softball...If we could make the Bee look more like a softball game, I'm sure ESPN would find a way to make it fit their schedule.Governor Squidhttp://profiles.google.com/gov.squidnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3953654.post-45841951886066594392013-05-31T10:08:51.350-04:002013-05-31T10:08:51.350-04:00I really loved the idea someone threw out in the c...I really loved the idea someone threw out in the comments yesterday -- split the field into brackets, with returning contestants/highest scorers on the computer test seeded in some way, and let each bracket spell down to a certain number of kids to get the field for the semis and the finals.victorianoreply@blogger.com
