Naah, I'm just messing with you. Paige Miles goes home with Tim Urban joining her in the bottom two, a wholly just result. Simon is merciful and tells her before the sing-for-your-life that there's no way she's getting Idol Immunity, so it's just a farewell song over the credits.
Next week: Soul/R&B music, with guest mentor Usher and a big surprise promised by Crystal Bowersox. Insofar as I've got nothing else to say, a special Usher clip:
My sister suggests Andrew sing this next week:

Does "Straight Up" by Paula Abdul count as R&B? Because, and I can't explain why I feel this way, I think it would be the perfect song for Andrew to sing. Maybe he could do an acoustic version with his guitar. I'll bet the judges would love that!
ReplyDeleteMy husband pulled up the YouTube of "Straight Up," since he'd never seen it and it's all they can ever talk about. We concluded that he hadn't been overrated at the time - aside from the very clever arrangement, Andrew was using his voice much better then - more range and dynamics and more confident tone.
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of glad he was saved (and of course Paige was the right one to go, after this mess and "Smile"), because he might do something interesting. Might. Hasn't shown any propensity to do so in a while.
I was rooting for Andrew to go simply because I can't stand to listen to the judges talk about Straight Up anymore.
ReplyDeleteOther than general casting malaise, I'd have enjoyed the last two weeks A LOT more if not for the idiotic eliminations going into the finals. Particularly on the girls' side.
Nothing has changed my mind that keeping Alex Lambert, Todrick Hall, Katelyn Epperly and Lilly Scott would have been better than keeping Tim Urban, (Andrew or Aaron), Paige and Lacey.
ReplyDeleteAgreed on swapping Tim, Paige and Lacey for Alex, Katelyn and Lilly. I'm actually enjoying Aaron's performances lately.
ReplyDeleteI think Andrew was going to do an acoustic version of Heard It Through the Grapevine, which might've been cool, till Miley told him to lose the guitar. Bad Miley.
I don't have anything to add regarding the Idol results, but I do need to note that that clip is reinforcement for my fondest wish- that a spontaneous, choreographed dance sequence somehow appear in my life.
ReplyDeleteAh, the birth of the flash mob.
ReplyDeleteSimon and I agree so far. I'm just saying. It's Crystal and Siobhan. My friend Robin (who sometimes comments here) just finally accepted that American Idol is worth obsessing over, and I'm sad that she wasn't around for the Jordin/Blake season, because that was a hell of a lot more interesting than this has been so far. I miss Katelyn.
Really?? I miss Katelyn and Lily and think they would have--at least--entertained me much more than all of the others you mention. And Alex was, to me, shaping up to be a far more interesting (potential) train wreck than the other boys. I just find Aaron unbearable. Sweet, whetever, but dull as dirt.
ReplyDeleteMJ's has a list of the R&B song choices for next week, and with few exceptions, the list is dominated by older fare. If someone doesn't break out of the box or try clearing a song NOT on the list, I fear we're in for another dull Tuesday night.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I'm saying, JSG (other than Aaron) - I'd rather have lost Tim, Paige and Lacey, and kept Alex, Katelyn and Lilly instead.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it qualifies as R&B, but someday I'd like to see someone to do "Single Ladies," in a totally different version so it didn't just fail to live up to Beyonce.
ReplyDeleteActually, that may be a spectacularly bad idea. Never mind. /Emily Litella
ReplyDeleteI just want someone to either do something nice and unexpected with an older song (in the vein of Kris Allen's take on "She Works Hard for the Money" as opposed to Tim Urban's reggae "Under My Thumb") or sing something from the last decade, even if the spin on it isn't that original. Sadly, I think Alex Lambert could have done really well in this theme, believe it or not. He sang Mario on Ellen after he got kicked off, and I thought he sang well, and he'd already pulled out some John Legend during the competition - so I think that's where his musical tastes tended to run.
ReplyDeleteAs for Crystal - I don't think Beyonce is a bad idea, though I'd prefer to see her take on "If I Were a Boy," and part of me secretly wants to see her take on and change up the Pointer Sisters' "Fire".
Ah, I'm just painfully slow these days!
ReplyDeleteHow about this cover of Single Ladies (originally courtesy of my sister):
