I barely go to the movie theater as it is, except for my Week O' Movies (tm). But I'll see even fewer if they make me watch 'em in 3D. I hate watching with the glasses - possibly because I already wear glasses and the combo of the two is uncomfortable and claustrophobia-inducing.
I too am not a 3-D fan because even if James Cameron says it will all smooth out and seem normal, my regular glass say that the ones on top of them will never feel normal, my vertigo says even if this is normal it makes me want to barf, and I have trouble reading it as seamless likely because of the double glasses effect.
I saw the last Harry Potter movie in IMAX 3D and had to take the glasses off because it was giving me a headache. And that was only what, the first five or 10 minutes in 3D?
If all movies are released in theatres in 3D does that mean they're in 3D when they're released on DVD too?
RE: the ticket price hike - at what point does it just become a better idea to skip the theatre and wait for the movie to hit Netflix?
3D movies are not necessarily released in 3D. As I understand it, the initial release of Avatar will not include 3D. (There is some possibility that the boyfriend has a projector and big screen in his condo and is both keenly interested in and, um, more than willing to share information on the availability of 3D products for his system.

I live in abject fear of 3D TV catching on.
