KEEP LOOKING UP: Jack Horkheimer: Star Gazer (nee Star Hustler), one of the great champions of public astronomy has died. Sure, it's nice to see Neil DeGrasse Tyson emerging to fill the niche once held by Carl Sagan, but Horkheimer provided simple, direct stargazing advice: this is up this week, check it out! in bite-sized, 1- and 5-minute bits. He will be missed.
Awww...
ReplyDeleteAs for the successor, I think Neil DeGrasse Tyson still has to take up Derrick Pitts' cage-match challenge.

Bummer. For me, he will forever be the Star Hustler, and will always be on PBS at 10:00 p.m. Sunday, just before Dr. Who (Tom Baker, of course).
ReplyDeleteA few years ago, Mrs. Earthling and I were driving up from Albuquerque to Santa Fe when "Stardate" came on. We both love that show so much that, despite the fact we speak no Spanish, we listened to the version on the Tejano radio station anyway. It was something about Jupiter.

ReplyDeleteI got an email about two months ago about how bright Mars is going to be on Thursday. "Like Two Moons", the email says. Without doing any digging my (lazy) self, any thoughts or other corroboration?

ReplyDeleteMars isn't even in opposition right now, so it's not even at its annual most-bright.
