STRIKE A (HEISMAN) POSE, THERE'S NOTHING TO IT: Will either the bourgeoisie or the rebels be satisfied if Madonna is next year's Super Bowl halftime performer?
In February 2009, I suggested (with the proviso that Prince should be the performer every year) that the shortlist starts with Garth Brooks and remain surprised they've gone country only once since 1994 (and even that was Shania Twain, sharing the stage with No Doubt and Sting). I did note in the comments, FWIW: "I just assumed Madonna wouldn't do it, that she's not interested in being a populist entertainer."
Just chiming in to say the haters can bite me, the Black Eyed Peas were awesome last year.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it time we had AC/DC? What can be a better time than that?
ReplyDeleteIt's been perhaps a decade since I paid any attention to Madonna, but I'll be watching the game and will inevitably check out the halftime show. Would be a pleasant surprise if she made me regret the inattention.
ReplyDeleteMadonna has been many things in her career, but she has never been boring. It'll be our toughest setlist prediction ever.
ReplyDeleteTime to get Rush to play. (Look, if we can waste spots on the Black Eyed Peas, we can get some Canadians in there.)
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the Grey Cup has a Canadian content requirement.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for Wikipedia. Mostly, but not exclusively, CanCon.
ReplyDeleteLooking at that lineup in Wikipedia, we can expect Rush to play at the Grey Cup in about 2025

ReplyDeleteThat was the first thing I thought of.
ReplyDeleteWait, Bachman and Turner....what happened to Overdrive?
ReplyDeleteHmmm - I had never seen Madonna perform anything (lived overseas for years), so when she appeared on SNL once I made certain I watched it. Gotta say, it was Bo-Ring. She sung "Fever", I think, and stood perfectly still, spotlit, possibly snapping her fingers, and absolutely nothing else. I didn't even find her voice memorable. Like I say, boring. Your mileage obviously varies.
ReplyDeleteThe BEP were awful. How about no halftime show next time? Just some marching bands while everybody in America goes to the can and the fridge.
ReplyDeleteThe Cleverlys' version of 'I gotta feeling' was better than the version done by the BEP at the superbowl.

ReplyDeleteI second the vote for no halftime show. It usually sucks (Prince being the exception) and unduly delays the start of the second half.
