ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS IV: THE CHIPPENING: Following The Squeakquel and now Chipwrecked, surely we can determine a title for the inevitable fourth film in the trilogy.
I know the folks behind the movie applied for a bunch of "The 3dquel!" marks a while back, though backed off, in part because 3D screens are in pretty high demand over the next few weeks between Hugo, Tintin, Darkest Hour, and Beauty and the Beast, plus Imax screens being filled by Ghost Protocol this weekend. I continue to hope against hope that this time, the movie's finally going to tank.

I will give them credit that they are assuredly providing nice paychecks to a bunch of people I like--Jason Lee, Zachary Levi, Amy Poehler, David Cross.
My 7-year old twin girls LOVE these movies. To my eternal chagrin. For months the only movies I could get them to watch were the two Chipmunk movies. Then, a few weeks ago, I managed to sneak the 1982 Annie on to the TV and they got hooked, bad. They are now in full-on Annie addiction mode - they spent the hour car ride coming back from getting a Christmas tree last week watching it on my iPhone. And Twin B, in particular, is coming very close to having memorized every song and now some scenes. She has sung Maybe maybe 100 times in the past two weeks.
Well done. Now, are they interested in seeing the more recent Annie movie also? I actually prefer it to the 1982 one, though each has its strong points.
I haven't seen the newer version, but the presence of a Ms. Audra McDonald does suggest good things. As a side note, i used the presence of Bernadette Peters in the movie as a pretext for putting on Sunday in the Park with George. I've trained the girls when encountaring a story to look for the "problem" - the conflict that drives ther story. Trying to put the "problem" of SitPwG in 7-year old terms is hard. It went like this:
"The problem is that the artist loves his girlfriend, but is so busy painting that she leaves him."
"So how do they solve the problem?"
"They don't"
[sober look]
I still haven't figured out how I'll explain Act II . . .
Starter Sondheim is difficult, but if they can do Peters, they can do Into the Woods, and the double entendre stuff (particularly with Red Riding Hood and the Wolf) should fly over their heads.
