    Headlines rejected as too obvious:

Monkees' Davy Jones Takes His Last Train to Clarksville
    Hey, Hey, He's Dead

That's all I've got.  Except that the reason we have a David Bowie is that label execs didn't want to create confusion between Davy Jones and David Jones.

Sad - 66 is still very young.  I should note that Micky Dolenz, playing himself, was most recently seen being devoured on stage in Mega Python vs. Gatoroid (although I can't recall which one was the devourer).  Perhaps Michael Nesmith has made the right decision in distancing himself from the other Monkees.

Death by drowning at sea would have been more appropriate.

Michael Nesmith had more options, due to his inheiritance and his smart business moves over the years.

I'm pretty disappointed -- can't I get a JESUS CHRIST YOU MISERABLE ASSHOLE instead of all this me-too?

I was just going to remark how much different in tone this thread is than the one on Whitney Houston.  If someone was upset that Whitney's death story led to a debate over the quality of her performances compared to others, I can't imagine a reaction to a posting of fake headlines like "Bequeathing All My Love For You" or "The Greatest Cautionary Tale Of All"

Lewis Black on the Daily Show last week did a segment about the media using the titles of Whitney's songs as segues and lead ins.

Nesmith showed up for this odd 1997 reunion...

  16. Do you know how long it took me before I wrote publicly "Shouldn't her cousin Dionne Warwick have been able to see it coming?"  (Because it didn't take me long to think it.)
