AH, PERRY THE PLATYPUS. YOUR TIMING IS IMPECCABLE. AND BY "IMPECCABLE," I MEAN COMPLETELY PECCABLE! The Parents Television Council has a problem with Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz appearing clad in only his tighty-whiteys.
The writer explains, "When I was a child, I grew up watching shows like Tom And Jerry and Donald Duck. Not creepy old men in their underwear," but as Alex noted to me via email, Tom and Jerry had racist and extraordinarily violent cartoons, and Mr. Duck was not exactly known to be a pants-wearer himself.
So this guy is alarmed to leave his child in front of an episode of Phineas and Ferb, but this is OK viewing for the youngster (skip ahead to the 1:55 mark)?

Wow. The author really gives himself away in the comments to the article: "I fail to see how anyone can justify having a character look like this". It's his first time ever seeing the show, and he's judged that this "old man" is "creepy". Apparently because he wears underwear and probably because he doesn't have the smooth body of a twenty-year old. For those that haven't seen the show (you should!), the "old man" in question is a father with a teenage daughter and is probably under 50. Or, as the author puts it: "a person that no reasonable parent would let their child be around".
ReplyDeleteI have always felt that being on the constant hunt for things to be offended by must be exhausting. What if you miss something? What if you spend even 5 minutes of your day NOT offended? Will G-d find out your let down your guard?
ReplyDeleteMy favorite spot is when the article turns to GCB. Dude, you've missed the point entirely. Maybe spend a little time being offended by the hypocrisy of the ladies, and a little less time on the fact that is was called Good Christian Bitches, after a book OF THE SAME NAME. Gah. I feel a facebook rant coming on.
Why is the Dean in a cage? I've only seen the first part of the cartoon.
ReplyDeleteAs I said at ALOTT5MA HQ, that guy clearly is fondling his own nipple. Also, not to agree with the PTC, but people in tighty-whities are inherently creepy.
ReplyDeleteMoment like the one pointed out become great talking points with your children. Ask them: how do you feel about that character? Is an adult walking around in his underwear appropriate? Is it a cartton, so can it stretch reality into something funny?
ReplyDeleteKids are not stupid. They surprisingly love to talk about the shows they watch and they want their parents to be involved.
So, yes, if I'm just leaving my kid in front of the TV, that character is scary, but if I'm involved in my kids life, it's a chance to get into my their world.
The world is full of people who walk around with no pants. Some are scary creeps, and others are harmless, perhaps senile or in need of help. Helping your kid figure out the difference could be a life saver.
(Cue music and graphic) "The more you know"....and OUT
Itchy's a jerk.
