GRIECO! Apparently, the
21 Jump Street movie doesn't suck. I don't know that I'd have been interested otherwise in seeing Academy Award nominee Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum in a buddy cop comedy -- regardless of its provenance and
whether it's in fact the male version of Never Been Kissed-- but now I'm intrigued.
I'm intrigued by the overall cast--lots of random people I like--Rob Riggle, Ellie Kemper, Nick Offerman. In other movies releasing this week, I got into a screening of Jeff, Who Lives at Home, and while it has its moments, it's really kind of a mess in which Jason Segel walks around a city stoned noticing "connections, man!" and we are supposed to find this somehow profound. That said, Susan Sarandon does some nice work, as always.
ReplyDeleteI saw it several weeks ago in an advance screening -- if you aren't all on Gofobo, what are you waiting for? -- and I was surprised at how much my husband and I laughed! It was actually pretty good, and there are enough little throwbacks for fans of the show.
ReplyDeleteAlso, this is the first movie I have ever liked Channing Tatum in. He's pretty much perfect for this role.
Also, don't read spoilers. Because some of the throwbacks are a lot more fun if you don't know about them.
Seeing it tomorrow, as my date works with Rob Riggle often and has declared that we "have to support [his] friends." I was really against seeing it, but these reviews make me feel better.
