WE DO LIKE OUR WHIPPED CREAM VODKA: The folks at The Philly Post have crunched the data from the
Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board's 2010-11 annual report (click to download PDF) to learn all sorts of things about the Delaware Valley's drinking habits. The region's top ten wines and spirits, in terms of bottles sold:
Jacquin's Vodka Royale - 80 Proof (375 mL)
Cavit Pinot Grigio
Sutter Home Cal. White Zinfandel
Jack Daniel's Old No 7 Black Label Whiskey (750 mL)
Jacquin's Vodka Royale - 80 Proof (1 L)
Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve CA Chardonnay
Grey Goose Imp. French Vodka (750 mL)
Nikolai Vodka - 80 Proof (375 mL)
Absolut Imp. Vodka - 80 Proof (750 mL)
Woodbridge By Robert Mondavi CA Chardonnay
I'm assuming here that Jacquin's isn't exactly the stuff you call when you call your own vodka.
ReplyDeleteNope. And the 375 mL variety is the "jacket pocket flask" size.
ReplyDeleteThat's one very grim list, and that's coming from someone who doesn't even drink the hard stuff. I know from experience that the selection at PA state stores is both limited and overpriced.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to a PA state store in ages, though...I thought they were supposed to be getting better.
The wines on that list are my own personal nightmare.
ReplyDeleteI'm the nightmare-ridden "guest" above.
ReplyDeleteLots of "cougar juice" in that wine list...
ReplyDeleteOh, they stock better stuff these days (still overpriced in many instances), but you know what they say about leading a horse to water....
ReplyDeleteJenn: I think that's pretty much the wine list from Twain's :).
ReplyDeleteThis may explain why I always stuck to cider at Twain's....
ReplyDeleteIt's a local concern, so they may benefit from in-state pricing and distribution. It probably works fine for its purpose.
