WHERE'S ALONZO? Grantland's tournament to determine the most hated college basketball player of the past thirty years (or rather: the runner-up to Christian Laettner) is missing a few names: only one Fab Five player? no one from Bob Huggins' thuggish Bearcat squads? No Ostertag?
I will vote for any and all of the "Fab Five" because I just recently saw some of the ESPN thing about them wherein they took credit for migrating basketball players to the longer, looser shorts. I can never forgive those who took away one of the best ways to practice the pasttime of ogling mens' legs.
ReplyDeleteOstertag, really? I'm surprised. I always thought he was a moron, but I didn't think people hated him. But it could be my Jayhawk-tinted glasses. Rock chalk forever!
ReplyDeleteDavid Benner--I don't think you can adequately hate a one-and-done player. There isn't enough built-up animosity. Now, most hated coach? Calipari's definitely in the top 5.
Either him or Big Country Reeves. Just couldn't deal with either of them on the court.
ReplyDeleteIs there a need for a large Hated Coaches bracket? Beyond Coach K, Huggins, Calipari, and Pitino, is anyone else in the running? I know John Chaney has his detractors, but not on that level.
Add Tark to that list.
DeleteI forgot all about Big Country Reeves. Shudder...
ReplyDeleteI guess the hated coaches would be a smaller bracket. It'd be hard to come up with 64. But I'd add Steve Lavin to the list and Norm Stewart from the evil Mizzou.
Really? Coach Norm? Is this a Kansas inferiority thing . . . ?
ReplyDeleteNot to speak unkindly of the deceased, but no Dwayne Schintzius? And how is Hurley a seven seed?
ReplyDeleteWojo was seeded too low, Iverson was seeded way too low, and Khalid El-Amin was not seeded at all.
ReplyDeleteOoooh, Mizzou fans and their cutting wit. I was actually trying to decide between Billy Tubbs and Norm. Had to go with Norm after years of yelling at him to sit down. God, I miss the Border War.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it time for the bracket of the lamest tournaments of things that aren't sports teams?
ReplyDeleteI think Bobby Knight might pick up a few votes.
ReplyDeleteAnd if you're going to have only one member of the Fab 5, Chris Webber is clearly the choice.
It actually drove home for me how much I dislike Duke basketball when I decided I agreed with Hurley at #7.
ReplyDeleteCalbert Cheaney? I'm no IU fan, but I have no beef with Cal. Now Damon Bailey, I could get behind.
ReplyDeleteNo doubt. If I may completely mix my eras: Big 8 4ever!
ReplyDeleteI'd recommend you watch metric football, but then all the cool kids would laugh at me.
