LAUER POWER: Whether you're a regular viewer or, like me, generally familiar with this principals without ever much watching the show,
this morning's NYMag longread on the implosion of The Today Show's ratings following Ann Curry's departure is just plain fascinating.
It's also worth noting that Brian Beutler of the NYT (who's been very scoopy on this sort of stuff) has a book coming out about the morning show wars next month. I'm intrigued.
ReplyDeleteThis is a good read except for the author's penchant for noting how often the women in the story cried. Wouldn't just saying that Curry or Guthrie were upset be good enough? (I understand mentioning Curry's on-air tears, but just felt like there was some weird "women always cry" thread going through the article.)
ReplyDeleteJust wait 'til Curry returns with her army and her dragons...
ReplyDeleteNO ONE TAKES KHALEESI'S ANCHOR CHAIR!
ReplyDeleteKeeping in mind the No Politics rule, I just have to say that I found this astounding:
ReplyDelete"When I bring up the press about him, Lauer grows agitated. 'There was
a piling on,' he says. 'Fair, untrue, unfair, it didn’t matter, there
was a wave of negativity.
'When the media covers something, it’s important to do basic homework. You can’t just repeat something over and over again until it sounds true. It’s not fair. You
know how much trouble we would be in if we did that? If we repeated what
one person told us over and over like it was a basic fact? We would be
done.'”
