FINGER PRINCE: So we've been through a lot of Animaniacs, Brady Bunch, even select seasons of Survivor (1, 2, 6) lately -- what stuff are you showing your kids on tv these days (either DVR-able or via Netflix streaming) which makes you feel like a better parent?
I know that my little one (9) has been watching The Cosby Show with her mom. We tend to watch movies more when we're together. She loved Back to the Future, Groundhog Day, and Ghostbusters. Recently watched Star Wars, and she's expressed interest in ESB.
ReplyDeleteI just started watching Cougar Town on my own, on Abed's recommendation. I wouldn't show that to Lucy.
ReplyDeleteOver the winter, our 2 1/2 year old memorized several from Miyazaki - My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, Ponyo, Kiki's Delivery Service, and Howl's Moving Castle. I loath watching movies more than once, but these are actually fantastic even the 50th time through. He's also a big fan of Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends. I was a big fan of Foster's and Miyazaki before he was born and am so glad he shares my good taste - heh.
ReplyDeleteIn the Earthling household, we love us some Gravity Falls.
ReplyDeleteWe keep "Sesame Street," "Super Why," and "Wonder Pets" on the TiVo for our toddlers (3 1/2 and nearly 2), but their favorite these days is "Charlie and Lola." We've also been checking out "Between the Lions" on DVDs from the library.
ReplyDeleteCosmo Girl and I are almost done with Season 1 of Gilmore Girls.
ReplyDeleteMy kids (11 and 9) have also been enjoying Gravity Falls and Cosby. I'm still proudest of introducing them to Twilight Zone (original recipe) -- I'm hoping to pepper in some classic Alfred Hitchcock Presents and a Night Gallery or two. And the great movies indoctrination project marches on, though I was thrown the other day when I suggested watching The Red Balloon, which I'd never seen -- the 9 y.o. tells me she already saw it in school and it was great! (I watched it last night anyway. She was right.)
ReplyDeleteBut their newest addiction? Batman. Adam West Batman. Yep, I'm done here.
My twins (9-year old girls) find a movie and latch on for a few weeks, watching NOTHING else (like many kids). The last few, in order: Parent Trap remake. Parent Trap original. Charlotte's Web (live action). Dolphin Tale. The Sound of Music (second time around). Annie (second time around).
ReplyDeleteMy children refuse to watch movies. ANY movie. They think movies are scary. So I'm a complete failure as a parent.
ReplyDeleteBut as for TV, I'm very, very proud that my kids have become obsessed with Schoolhouse Rock and The Muppet Show. Almost makes up for the movie thing. Almost.
I love hearing that so many kids are enjoying reruns of shows from the 60s-80s. My seven year old niece is in love with Brady Bunch, Cosby Show, and Little House on the Prairie.
