IT'S NOT ABOUT THE MONEY, MONEY, MONEY; WE DON'T NEED YOUR MONEY, MONEY, MONEY: There will be a Pitch Perfect sequel in 2015, though none of the original stars have yet signed. Please, please, be better than the Bring It On and American Pie sequels, and not just "Rebel Wilson (or whoever else ends up needing the work from the original cast) mentors the next generation ..."

(That link also includes a new, much-expanded Anna Kendrick "Cups (When I'm Gone)" video. Our original discussion of the film is here.)

  1. Given that Kay Cannon is returning to write and Banks/Handleman are returning to produce, I've got hope. My guess is that the 2015 date is partially to accommodate schedules. Wilson has a sitcom pilot for ABC, which if it gets picked up, means she has limited availability until next summer (and Brittany Snow has one for Fox), and Kendrick has Last Five Years filming, and rumored to be attached to Into the Woods with an October start. Anna Camp (rather surprisingly) doesn't have a pilot, but she'll be in demand during the TV season, and Banks has Hunger Games stuff.

  2. Coincidentally, the movie is coming my way from Netflix for tomorrow.

  3. I can't express how excited I am for Kendrick in Last Five Years.

  4. I'd be much more excited if Jeremy Jordan weren't her other half.

As much as I enjoyed the original, I fear the sequel will have far too much Rebel Wilson and not enough of the rest of the cast, in the same way the roles of Stifler and the Jason Biggs character seemed to get bigger and bigger roles with each American Pie sequel. I didn't watch much of the MTV Movie Awards, but I saw enough to discover that a little of her goes a long, long, long way. I'm just hoping Anna Kendrick, Anna Camp and Brittany Snow will be back.

Having just seen the show for the first time, I can absolutely see Jeremy Jordan doing it. On Smash, I don't like his character because he's petulant, self-centered, and arrogant without being the success that deserves it yet and without realizing he needs to compromise at this stage in his career (because the writers wrote him that way to provide obstacles, never mind that no one would be working with him like that). Since Jamie in Last Five Years is an overnight mega-success, all of that would work.

Has anyone heard if they plan to retain the structure? I'm assuming it won't be a two-person cast with filmed solos only. And then - does it work sans the structure?

If they make it, I'll see it. I just hope it's good. After all, I love Sister Act 2, so why shouldn't I love this?

But they went ahead and made a full-length video of Cups (by far the best minute of both the movie and soundtrack) by PUTTING ACCOMPANIMENT IN. Did they not understand what "a cappella" means?!?

Can I ask a really dumb question? Was "Cups" a song before Pitch Perfect or was it written for the film? (I've tried to Google this and failed to find an answer...)
