BEAVIS' GRAMMAR RODEO:  Slate's new language correspondent Neil Whitman confronts the age-old question of what we actually mean when we're calling someone a dickhead, whether "someone whose entire being consists of the head of a dick OR someone who has a dick for a head."

    What is your problem, Adam? "Kruger knows a thing or two about bots in the future, having co-written the three Transformers sequels." If that doesn't allay your concerns, I don't know would.

    I usually mean that they're pursuing their own gratification in a way that recklessly discounts the comfort or well-being of others. It's similar to saying someone is being a hard-on, but with particular emphasis on a reckless sort of decadence rather than simple dogged myopia. For whatever it's worth, the author's diagnosis is compatible with this usage.
