LOGAN, WE HAVE TO GO BACK: Next summer's presumed blockbuster
X-Men: Days Of Future Past has a full trailer out, and they're trying an odd balancing act--not only do they have a bunch of star faces they want to show (interestingly, Jackman gets above-the-title billing, and they manage to show Jennifer Lawrence other than in her Mystique makeup), but they're trying for mood rather than explosions, at least at the start of the trailer, and seem convinced that selling it as Singer's return to the franchise is going to be helpful. Heck, we even get Peter Dinklage in 70s mustache/hair looking as if he walked off the set of
American Hustle. I'm not sure it's going to sell tickets to the mainstream audience, but I'm intrigued.
One shot of Bishop, meaning he might be sidelined, no mention of Cable; both of these are really, really positive signs.
ReplyDeleteBUT
Are they seriously shifting the time shift from Kitty Pryde to Logan? Not a happy camper about that.
At work so I can't watch it yet, but this is my favorite comic book ever so I am at the same time super psyched and super nervous about this movie.
ReplyDeleteThe wife and I had problems with X-Men: First Class. We were expecting so much, and we felt very let down by the plot (despite great acting performances generally all around). Watched this trailer last night, and this looks promising (given, I'm pretty sure I can make her watch anything with James McAvoy in it).
ReplyDeleteFor at least one member of the cast, it seems clear that the "face[]" is what they're looking to emphasize. That sliding scene -- whew. She might as well be topless. I mean. I mean.
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be a very different story. In DoFP, the future was entirely unfamiliar to us, and the "past" was what we knew well. Here, it seems, the "future" is the one we already know from the first three movies, whereas we only know the past from one movie. (Unless I'm misreading the preview -- does anyone know otherwise?) That alone seems to make a huge difference.
ReplyDeleteBut still, the Cult of Wolverine seems to be alive and well in terms of X-Men stories. (And hey, when you have Hugh Jackman it's hard to argue with that.) I was just hoping that this would be much more Ellen Page's movie.
ReplyDeleteFor at least one member of the cast, it seems clear that the "face[]" is NOT what they're looking to emphasize. That sliding scene -- whew. She might as well be topless. I mean. I mean.
ReplyDeleteYes, though they also take pains to show her looking like herself rather than in Mystique drag the whole time. (I don't think Romijn ever got that treatment.)
ReplyDeletePerhaps the popularity of Hugh Jackman/Wolverine in international markets forces the high profiling of his role in a trailer.
ReplyDeleteWhat, looking like Romijn? She does in both 2 and 3 (seducing the guard in the bar in 2 and after she has the cure inflicted on her in 3).
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what the movie will be about, but I'll see it! As long as Picard doesn't try to initiate a slingshot around the sun, we're good. ;)
