YES, FOR A SECOND TIME. GET THE HELL OUT.  There's so much to say about last night's Good Wife; I'll focus on two elements:

  • There are no white hats in this universe; there are no black hats. Cary's absolutely right to call out Diane for the yoinking of the opportunistic partnership offers; Will's absolutely right to remind Alicia just how much the Firm has gone out on a limb for her personally. Everyone has a legitimate argument.
  • Fascinating to see how much Alicia and Peter are each turned on by the other's exercise of power. Since we never got to see them before Peter's scandal, it's revelatory as to how they got together in the first place.

  1. The episode was so well crafted I'll forgive the completely implausible TROs that the plot depended on (a tortious interference claim is normally the last refuge of people looking for a claim, and courts know it--though both firms had potentially valid claims--LG for breach of fiduciary duty against Alicia and FA for defamation). Another tiny bug--David Lee suddenly has privacy law/Internet law skills? I thought he was a family law and partnership law person.

Thing I'll have to work hard to forgive, per the Kings:

"What happened to Jackie’s nurse, Cristian? He took all that money from Eli at the end of last season and said he was sticking around.
Michelle: Cristian, we love him so much, but with Peter in the governorship, Jackie’s health has rallied. Power does everything for her. For the moment, she does not need his assistance. But she will call him at a moment’s notice.
Robert: And there’s a pragmatic reason. Mad Men ran some of the same plots [in the storyline involving Pete Campbell’s mother and her nurse Manolo]. With two shows following that plot, we’d probably have problems going back to it again."

  3. Loved the bit at the end of Will and Alicia's phone conversation where he passed on the message from Grace and she thanked him.

  4. If only Robert, rather than Michelle, had given this answer, I could more accurately say that it is NOT GREAT, BOB!

  5. I understand Peter's emotional motivation to crush Diane by not nominating her for the judgeship, but doesn't that actually hurt Alicia? Diane's a great lawyer, so having her back fighting, and pissed off, at Lockhart Gardner means that Florrick Agos has that much stronger a nemesis to contend with.

But I don't think, as Governor, you want a justice on the Supreme Court who may be biased against your administration because of something your spouse did.

  7. Also, who says Diane stays at "Gardner and Associates?" She's pissed at Will and has concerns about his ethics and can barely conceal her contempt for David Lee. I'd earlier guessed that once the indemnity agreement was signed, she was going to deep six LG by giving nasty testimony in the harassment suit.

Good episode, but isn't starting a medium-sized law firm with a bunch of fourth-year associates a worse business plan than the Michael Scott Paper Company?

But they have a common enemy now. This could bring them back together.

  10. The Michael Scott Paper Company was ultimately a successful venture.
