HARLEMM LEE'S LAMENT: As slender reeds go, today's four year anniversary of TPE's review of the debut of "Treasure Hunters" on NBC ($3M! Wild Hanlons! a host we've never seen again!) is just sturdy enough to remind me that I've yet to link to Andy Denhart's Daily Beast survey of the reality of twenty reality tv prizes. He focuses on the shows which are still on the air -- though we've been more interested in the shows which failed -- but it isn't about time that Survivor and TAR stepped it up from the initial $1M bounty?

Despite the article's claims, the gallery shows that most of these shows do pay out exactly what they say they do. ANTM seems to be the exception, not the rule.

This was worth reading just for finding out how Extreme Makeover:CryingLikeABaby Edition gets around the homeowners being responsible for taxes.

  2. Bottom line: if we say money, you get the money -- but there's taxes.  If we say we're going to help your career ... maybe not.

That sounds about right - but really, you should know there are taxes to pay (especially given Richard Hatch). The salary my employer offers me doesn't bear a whole lot of resemblance to what I actually get to spend either and no one calls that reneging on a promise.
