FOLLOW THE PAROL EVIDENCE RULE: I've never regularly watched CSI: Original Recipe, though it's one of those shows that I'll enjoy when I do watch, particularly the earlier years, when they reveled in the nerdery of the characters. It's gotten downgraded from its Thursday slot for the fall, and now there's news that the show will be looking for new leads, with Laurence Fishburne opting out and Marg Helgenberger wanting to reduce her workload. Given budget constraints, I don't see them going down the road of "hire a big movie star" again, but there are a number of TV names out there who'd be interesting choices. Joshua Malina as an unabashedly nerdy investigator? Alexis Bledel as the new/naive girl? Treat Williams as a gather figure type? Steven Weber to bring some snark? The franchise has been smart about casting in the past (Sela Ward joining CSI: Blue Filters last year was a smart call from a creative/talent standpoint), so going to be interesting to see where they go. Any suggestions from y'all?
I realized who's available, likely in the right price range, a solid performer, and would certainly intrigue me--Kyle Chandler. He allegedly turned down Terra Nova, and he may be kind of a hot commodity after Super 8.
ReplyDeleteJimmy Smits. TV isn't TV if he's not on it somewhere.
ReplyDeleteHow about bringing back the original TV forensic scientist: Jack Klugman as Quincy, M.E.? Well, OK, so he's about 90 years old now, so maybe he can't handle the workload. But maybe as a supporting role?
ReplyDeletePerhaps he used to be the head of the NSF, but after his father is killed in a car accident, he decides to move to Las Vegas and work in a police lab where he can really help people.
ReplyDeleteOn baseball blogs, applingly often people try to figure out how to optimize their favorite team's roster by executing a series of trades. Sometimes people try to impose the rational constraint that trades have to make sense for both teams. More often, people are grossly unrealistic about what they should get for their own spare parts. (An example of the latter is "the Yankees should trade for Felix Hernandez!" -- the Yankees have literally, literally, nothing to trade that has the same value of the next three years of Felix Hernandez under club control). Smart proprietors of baseball blogs therefore try to police against rampant roster speculation, lest they drown in a flood of commentary advocating trading for Bautista while signing Pujols as a free agent on the cheap. They call this kind of commentary "rosterbation."
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing inherently wrong with rosterbation. It can be a fun exercise (though people should try to be realistic).
I think this type of post should be called casterbation. Don't mean to be perjorative; I just think it's nicely descriptive.
That is all.
I unabashedly love Quincy, M.E., from Klugman all the way through the supporting cast. Favorite episode: tossup between the botched plastic surgery (with dramatic reveal at end) and the botulism one.
ReplyDeleteI believe Ted McGinley, Rena Sofer, and Paula Marshall are all available if we just want to put the show out of its misery already.
ReplyDeletePair up Donal Logue and Michael Raymond-James.
ReplyDeleteThis would get me to watch. So would Michael Emerson-Terry O'Quinn, but Emerson's not available.

ReplyDeleteDavid Tennant is probably still looking for American work.
