INSTEAD OF A REPEAT OF LAST YEAR'S BOXING DAY BLIZZAPOCALYPSE COVERAGE: From
the location of [ ]'s [ ] at the end of David Fincher's Seven to
the magic one on Lost to the one in which Adrian Pasdar slept on Profit (which followed
the Alice in Chains song), boxes have played an important role in our popular culture over the years. (Maybe.) Add to the list.
Friends: Joey's Porsche, Monica's stuff getting ruined gets her a car (Ross and Rachel's disparate driving styles), and, my favorite episode, the prom tape in the box.
ReplyDeleteThe nerve induction box in Dune.
ReplyDelete"Dick in a Box"
"Button, Button" from the New Twilight Zone.
The TARDIS, permanently stuck in the form of a police box. (Also, Inspector Spacetimes'a phone box and the Pandorica.)

ReplyDeleteAh, Profit, how I miss thee. Too bad it arrived at a time when anti-heros were not in vogue. We had to wait for the arrival of Dexter Morgan to make anti-heros acceptable.
ReplyDeleteTherefore, my favorite "box" is the shipping container where Dexter Morgan and his crazy brother saw their mom slaughtered.
Damn, good catch. Also, Warehouse 13.
ReplyDeleteHow could I miss that one??
ReplyDeleteThe empty ring box Seth Rogen presents Katherine Heigl in Knocked Up.

Also from the music world, Nirvana's Heart Shaped Box, The Who's Squeeze Box, and Alex Chilton-fronted The Box Tops.
The redo is terrible in nearly every respect, though it at least offers a brunette Gillian Jacobs in a supporting role.
ReplyDelete
And then he ran out.
ReplyDeleteAnd, then, fast as a fox,
The Cat in the Hat
Came back in with a box.

A big red wood box.
It was shut with a hook.
"Now look at this trick," said the cat.

With a tip of his hat.

ReplyDeleteI was a big fan of Felicity back when the show aired. Her roommate's special box with mysterious contents was one of my favorite running gags.
