SO LONG, AND THANKS FOR ALL THE BABELFISH:  Google Reader is dead, and the Altavista search engine will shutter on July 8. But, hey, at least Suck.com's archives are still online, twelve years later.

  1. But the News Quiz archives keep deteriorating. Only the front pages have survived at this point. No more "Click here for more answers".

Wait, Altavista didn't shut down in the first 10 years after everyone switched over to Google? Back in its day, Altavista was my choice for search, until Google launched and was at least an order of magnitude better than its competitors. Babelfish was useful until Google Translate started to be awesome.

I don't really understand why Google is killing Reader, because it seems to fit in with their goal of indexing and searching all of the world's information.

It gets weirder, and I should have said this at the top: Yahoo first announced it was closing Altavista in December 2010. DId they just forget? http://money.cnn.com/2010/12/17/technology/yahoo_buzz_delicious_on_deathlist/index.htm
