AT NOTABLE WEDDING, AN UNEXPECTED INCIDENT:  How major media publications would have reported on that thing that happened on Game of Thrones last night.

(Please, no spoilers in the comments for those who haven't read the books.)

  1. So basically, no comments then, right?

  2. I assume you mean we can spoil up through the end of last night's episode but not anything beyond (e.g., information about Who Did The Deed), right?

    Exactly.

  4. So, as a non-reader of these books, I had two questions for the readers:

    1. There was a nice homage to the Elric saga, when someone in the crowd suggests that Joffrey name his new blade Stormbringer. Was that in the books, or did someone add it here (could still have been GRRM, who wrote the episode)?

    2. That discussion between Granny Tyrell and Sansa about murders at weddings seemed a bit on-the-nose in retrospect. Is that in the books? Or added for economy of storytelling (or other reasons) here?

  5. Just wait til next week, when new character Lester (a Tully), a propos the investigation into this week's events, declares that "all the pieces matter."

No sword name suggestions are listed in the book, but the Olenna line is basically the same. "I was very sorry to hear about your losses," she said..."Your brother was a terrible traitor, I know, but if we start killing men at weddings they'll be even more frightened of marriage than they are presently."

I've honestly been trying to remember if the novels have explicitly said WHO DID IT, though I think it's pretty obvious at this point.

It was kind of an interesting point for someone to shout out "Stormbringer" when Daenerys Targaryen is also called Stormborn.

From memory it is more directly stated in A Dance etc. who the murderer is.

Certainly, the Elric Saga and Game of Thrones share a great deal of royal incest in common.

I'm not even sure it's stated explicitly who sent the fellow to kill Bran until A Feast for Crows. I think by then you are supposed to know for certainly, but I remember reading it much later and saying to myself, "well, right. but why am I being told this now?"

After that, I expected the Tyrion accusation immediately to be followed by Varys saying, "This sentimental motherfucker just cost us money."

As a fellow non-reader, it reminded me of "Murder on the Orient Express." Everyone at the wedding has a plausible motive and, if some worked together, they all had opportunity. I could make the case for any of them being in on it.

And that's murderers, going by my checking into that. Of COURSE it was those two.
