FROM THE HIGH TO THE LOW TO THE END OF THE SHOW FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES: We don't tend to discuss Billy Joel a lot around here, but -- if I'm assessing our demographics properly -- if this blog were a list of things thrown circa 1986, he'd play a fairly seminal role in our collective existence. Or maybe it's just me. In any event, Joel's music represents a sizeable chunk of the soundtrack of my junior high and high school years. But apparently his ascendance into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame wasn't always an inevitability, according to this fun albeit sort of random CNN piece. (Incidentally, I prefer Turnstiles to The Stranger -- the latter at this point feeling more like a Greatest Hits compilation than an actual album.)
