YOU'RE NOT TOO SMART, ARE YOU... I LIKE THAT IN A MAN: Our friend Matt Zoller Seitz slideshows ten movies in which sweatiness is a major factor.

In other MZS news, I hope you've been following his video essay series on how the movies have depicted fame. It's really special, and I'm enjoying his continuing project of exploring new ways to do film criticism and analysis using the tools the Internet provides.

Wasn't this a debate on "Cheers"?  I believe they suggested "Body Heat" and "Cool Hand Luke," which are both on MZS's list, but someone else chimed in with "Spartacus."

I'd toss in  A Time to Kill, with honorable mentions for the volleyball scene in Top Gun and the beach races in Rocky III.

  4. That's more situational sweatiness as opposed to a consistently humid film.

I was thinking of the Stephen Baldwin - Cindy Crawford vehicle Fair Game (I think that's its title), in which Crawford takes no fewer than four showers in the space of probably ten hours of movie time.

Most World War II Pacific Theater films were heavy on the sweat.  Mostly because it was an awfully cheap effect, I'm sure.

I feel like I saw a much, much longer movie.

  8. No honorable mention of Miussion: Impossible, which turned a single drop into endless parody?

I had a movie on the tip of my tongue (brain?) and couldn't remember what it was... finally remembered it... started to type it... and realized you already had it- A Time To Kill. I think I also remember The Client being pretty sweaty also? Is it a John Grisham thing?

Must be a southern courtroom cliche, I'd guess.
