TWENTY-ONE [DING] SALUTE: Frank Neuhauser, winner of the first-ever national spelling bee eighty-five years ago,
has passed away at the age of 97. He won the 1925 competition with "gladiolus," for which he earned $500 in gold, a bicycle, and a trip to the White House to meet President Coolidge.
I'll admit that, when I first heard this news, I wondered if y'all were going to cover it. Thank you for justifying my faith in you.
ReplyDeleteI hope there are spelling bees in heaven, with Alex Cameron as the pronouncer.
ReplyDeleteRIP Frank.
