I love that Mike Doughty was included in this list.
ReplyDeleteI eventually had to stop following him on Twitter because I'd had my fill of feeling like a jackass for ever enjoying Soul Coughing, so that entry was my favorite as well.
ReplyDeleteStill a Twitter follower and haven't read the book yet since it didn't get shipped to my small town bookstore (perhaps I can explore the exciting world of online ordering), I've been to tons of his solo shows so I'm very familiar with the "no, I will not play that SC song" said with the very clear undercurrent of "hey asshole, stop requesting 'Super Bon Bon.'" I did hear that of all the SC songs he has fairly positive feelings about "The Idiot Kings" and "St. Louise is Listening," which are two of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteI've unfollowed two celebrities on Twitter--one, despite his presence on two much-beloved shows, because his Twitter degraded almost entirely into political rants, and the other a child actress who tweeted too much. (Another younger actress I follow is in danger of an unfollow for the second reason as well.)
ReplyDeleteI keep trying to do a post about what I liked and didn't like about his book, but I think I've just about figured out that he is so sensitive to criticism and so apt to Google himself that it's just not worth it. Though maybe I should point out that the page or two physically (and unflatteringly) describing every woman he ever had sex with would have been my first cut, were I his editor.
ReplyDeleteI think I unfollowed the same actor as you.
ReplyDeletehe had an album out last year. Anyone know if it's any good?
ReplyDeleteIt's actually the first album of his I haven't bought, but only b/c I'm getting it through Spotify. I like it, but it hasn't hooked me like his other ones. The 1st single, "Na Na Nothing," is pretty darn catchy. My sister likes the album a lot, and we are both Doughty-philes.
