A GUY GAVE US THE RECORDER, MONEY, AND GREAT SEATS:  You'll be so excited, so excited, so ... scared? ... to see A Very Special Montage of Fifty Very Special Sitcom Episodes. Yes, in four-plus minutes it includes the Mr. Belvedere AIDS episode, Punky Brewster learning about refrigerator safety, and many, many characters learning about the dangers of drugs, alcohol abuse, and Gordon Jump.

Isn't Punky Brewster a robot?  She can't suffocate.

It's complicated; you want to make sure to leave the right tribute for the genie that turns the light on and off. Otherwise, there's a curse.

In a sea of overwrought, misguided attempts to treat serious subjects in environments typically given over to broad comedy, I was kind of disapointed to see Sesame Street's Hooper Dies episode included, being as it is an absolutely perfect piece of television.

It's just like I always said:  they should not let Commandant Lassard be the guardian of small children.  (Also, they should not have an original score for Punky Brewster episodes.)

I remember secretly-illiterate being WAY more common in TV Land than this montage shows.  No specific examples I can come up with, but I think I left the 1980s thinking that secret illiteracy was the scourge of the random sitcom relative (often signalled by their success in business).

I think they missed the boat by not including the Dine-and-Dash episode of Silver Spoons, in which Ricky sidegrades his image to impress some girls, who convince him and his friends to try skipping a bill at the pizza parlor:

Oh! Oh!  Also, Fergie in Kids Incorporated on smoking cigarettes:

I wish there were a stronger button than "like" right about now, Adam Bonin.

Much as I want to mock everything included...the Family Ties (alcoholism) and Fresh Prince (deadbeat dads) segments still work really well.

That said, this is the best AIDS special episode ever:

Interesting...have there been no "my best friend/son/UPS guy is gay" episodes?

  14. Sure. Even Cheers had one in its first season.
