ARE WE GOING TO GET AN AMERIKA REBOOT?  Because miniseries are becoming increasingly common (and because networks have created things like American Horror Story, True Detective, and Fargo, which straddle the line between miniseries and series), the Emmys are going to deconsolidate TV Movie and Miniseries into separate categories again. I'm guessing HBO pushed this one pretty hard, so it doesn't have to deal with True Detective and Normal Heart competing with each other in the acting categories.

I like it, especially if they figure out how to deal with British shows. It's too early to know if True Detective is going to work as a series, but man, watching the Great Texas Act Off in the pilot was fun. McConaughey's gotta be the early favorite for the Emmy, right?

  2. So say all the critics, and not having to deal with Mark Ruffalo in Normal Heart, which is a super-showy role, will help that. (As will the inexplicably beloved American Horror Story having no substantial male parts this year.)

AHS has plenty of male parts. They just got sewn together into one guy.

  4. Unless Kramer does a LOT of work to improve The Normal Heart from play to teleplay, it's not going to be very good. Definitely no Angels.

  5. I've never seen Normal Heart, but it's a SERIOUSLY acclaimed piece of writing. Ryan Murphy directing and doing the adaptation does give one pause, though, especially since Kramer isn't exactly known for subtlety in the first place.
