NOT RANKED: ASSISTANT CRACK WHORE:  According to Careercast, which does these rankings annually based on data on each profession's "Environment, Income, Outlook, and Stress," the worst job in America is "journalist," followed by lumberjack.  Top five, from two hundred ranked: actuary, audiologist, mathematician, statistician, biomedical engineer.

Of interest to many here: librarian is #35, attorney #125.

  1. But I thought Lumberjacks were all OK! They work all night and they sleep all day!

These are the worst jobs in America. Maybe in British Columbia lumberjacks have it better.

Is there an assistant crack whore opening? Because I'm a journalist, and we've been last in this profession ranking two of the last three years (and second to worst last year).

Actually, the field's kind of crowded, but if you're willing to be Unpaid Intern Crack Whore, it'll look GREAT on your CV.

I think it's kind of weird that mathematician, statistician, and data scientist (#6) are three different things.
On the other hand, I guess I had no problem with actuary being a different thing, because it is, so maybe not so weird. Maybe I find it odd because, given that they're not doing statistics or data science, I have to wonder where all those 6-figure mathematician salaries come from, because most of academia pays dick, and that's gotta be way more than half of us.

The closest I can find to my job is Social and Community Manager which ranks at a whopping 93! They grossly underestimate my stress level! We've got 85 kids who need to finalize college decisions in the next two weeks, 60 college students graduating who need jobs, and a fundraising event for 500 people this week that is being "hosted" by a major league baseball team that is expected to finish in last place!
