AT LEAST IT'S KEEPING CARLA GUGINO EMPLOYED: Some questions begged by tonight's Entourage:
  • Who on earth thought it would be a good idea for them to write Aaron Sorkin and Jessica Simpson a scene to perform together? What sort of drugs did they give Sorkin to make him perform in such a scene?
  • Because we're a pseudo-family-blog, I'm not going to get into the lengthy E-Sloan plot in tonight's episode, which was handled with much more dignity (and humor) on Sex and the City with Charlotte some years ago, but who thought that was a good idea?
  • Who thought that what Entourage needed was a female porn star playing herself, but who spends the entire episode in network-safe level of clothedness?
  • Let's assume that someone just started watching Entourage this season--wouldn't they have the view that there are actually two completely separate shows going on--one about Vince and his buddies, and one about Ari running the agency--which have effectively nothing to do with one another?

  1. As someone who didn't start watching Entourage, thought about it for a while when it was all the rage, thought about it again when every single pop reference that could involve Turtle was made, and watched the Piven Emmys and the blowback, AND knew that the new season was starting again...

Anyone who hasn't watched it yet isn't starting now.

I watch this show in chunks when I hit a certain backlash from all of the substantial stuff, because I know by now that no one is going poor, no one is going home, no one is going to learn anything, no one is EVER going to get an STD,  That said, I believe that the writer of that show was Ally Musika, who is also the show's story editor.  So, the person at the helm actually is responsible for this episode of turns.

I think the show has been taking this turn of half-Vince, half-Ari for quite some time, starting with when Vince left Ari but Jeremy Piven still remained in the credits.  Sure, it was just an arc, but for a good long while, the two of them had nothing to do with each other.

Also, I think it's reassuring that before she got into porn, Sasha Gray made sure she had legitimate acting as a fall-back -- you know, in case she needed the money.

  3. Well, in that arc, most episodes had at least a passing reference to Ari wanting/needing to get Vince back and/or manipulating Drama to try and accomplish that end.  (Also, the "Ari Gold wants to buy an NFL team" plotline seems to have been dropped with no explanation.)

Just like every other effort to bring an NFL team to LA since the Rams and Raiders left.

I'll be the usage pedant, but this is not a proper use of "question begging."

How about this:  Entourage plainly is a quality show, because only quality shows like Entourage last as long as Entourage has lasted.

Perhaps Entourage exists because it is a quality show but how do you explain -

I will be using that as my next example, Isaac.
