SHOVELS AND RAKES AND IMPLEMENTS OF DESTRUCTION:  [An open thread for Thanksgiving.  Alice still runs a gallery in Provincetown while Officer Obie passed away in 1994.  Four years later came the most memorable coin toss in NFL history. And a decade after that, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends brought a surprise to the Macy's Parade.]

Fun coincidence; I was just reading the ridiculously complete post on the Masacree over at Metafilter.

  2. Two posts about Alice's Restaurant on or around Thanksgiving?  As Dr. Horrible might say:  What a crazy, random happenstance!  :)

No 8 by 10 glossy photographs, but as I've been pestering Facebook friends all morning with this, I figure I'll go multiplatform: my 9 y.o. daughter was part of the "650-voice" youth chorus that performed at Philadelphia's Thanksgiving parade, up on the Art Museum steps. My wife, trouper that she is, was a chaperone; the 6-y.o. and I watched on TV. I counted five recognizable shots of the 9 y.o. on the broadcast - we've been kvelling ever since.

Also? First snow of the year! (It has since turned to sleet.)

And even an appearance by Our Star Blazers at the Macys Parade.

I've seen numerous posts today about Alice's Restaurant.  And I saw Arlo Guthrie peforming at the parade - but he did his dad's song.

I'm celebrating with a Mentalist and marking marathon. My husband is celebrating with a road trip with his buddies - two NFL games and an NHL game. I believe there will be turducken. Yep, we're Canadian, but we're celebrating right along with you! Happy turkey day to all.

A day late, but I ran my first half marathon yesterday!  A great way to justify that dinner, of course.  Ran the whole thing!

To the list of the many blessings for which I gave thanks yesterday, allow me to add "leftovers" today.
