WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE: Burlesque opens tomorrow, which raises an interesting question: how many people will go to see a remake of Showgirls without nudity?
True on the fame, perhaps, but he's a talented guy who hasn't really show up in anything besides SATC since then (and I'll admit that was one of my favorite SATC storylines between his character and Charlotte).
He's also had the four year long arc on Desperate Housewives, where he was pretty good, and was the co-lead on "In Justice," a short-lived crusading lawyer show from the folks who went on to do "Good Wife."
I just had this discussion at work today. If you were a big Cher fan back in the Sonny & Cher days (when Cher had some natural features left to speak of and Chaz wore a frilly yellow dress), then you'll see this. I was THAT fan, as was my sister. I also think this will be a turning point for Xtina (yes...I just said that). I think she has the chops. I also trust that Cher and Stanley Tucci wouldn't put their names behind it if it were truly junk. Recall...Cher can act (at least I think she can, and so do people who give out Oscars...well, maybe that's not a strong argument). So yep...I'll go. [FYI: i liked Nine, so take my comments with that in mind.]
Oh, I hated Nine, but I'm sure I'll end up going to see this. (Cher's singing a Diane Warren song. See: lisased's quest to see All Things Oscar-Nominated.)
1. If this tweet from Nathan Rabin is not about Burlesque, I will be shocked.
ReplyDelete2. Apparently, Anne Hathaway's competing movie more than makes up for the lack of nudity in Burlesque.
Most importantly, which actor in Burlesque is torpedoing their career here like Kyle McLachlan did?
ReplyDeleteTorpedo how? He's at his appropriate level of fame.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand the point of a sincere, nudity-free Showgirls, though Cher at age 64 ... wow. That's modern science at work.
Me, me, me! I will see this!

ReplyDeleteI'll be there. I'll go just to hear Xtina sing. Love her voice!
ReplyDeleteOK, I totally blanked on his DH stint (sue me, I only ever watched it for Kathryn Joosten).
ReplyDeleteGiven the choice of Cher/Xtina nudity v Anne Hathaway nudity, I vote Annie all the way.
ReplyDeleteMy husband saw it yesterday and said that Kristen Bell plays Gina Gershon, so I am pretty much there (although maybe on DVD).
ReplyDeleteWhen she sings, does she burn? (Showgirls reference)
ReplyDeleteSo not going to see this. I will wait for the Nostalgia Chick to recap it someday.
