AND A BAG OF CHIPS? What do viewers ages 18-34 really want to watch at night? Apparently, reruns of old Nickelodeon shows. Heck, 600,000 people tuned in to watch an hour of All That and Kenan and Kel at midnight Monday night. That beat (among other things) Lopez Tonight and Lifetime's HIMYM and Old Christine repeats, and isn't that far behind what Conan has been doing at 11.

I was watching.  I'm on the younger end (18) and wasn't allowed to watch tv at home until high school, but I still managed to see a decent amount of All That (although I mostly saw the later years and not the episodes that they're currently running) and Clarissa reruns while at my grandparents' house.  Now if only Disney channel would rerun Lizzie McGuire and Even Stevens...

I'm no longer in that demographic.  Weird.  Also?  I never once watched All That or Keenan and Kel.  And I'm asleep at midnight, especially on a school night!  Get off my lawn!

I'm a bit older than that demographic, but would eagerly tune in at least once or twice for Livewire/You Can't Do that on Television/The Tomorrow People/The Third Eye reruns.

  4. It really is a brilliant strategy, and something MTV should consider as well.  All of these shows are just sitting in the archives with a ton of fans who would love to drop in once or twice a week for some nostalgia.  What else are you going to put on that late?  Free money.

Are those numbers better than those for Terriers and Men of a Certain Age?  I might be understanding why TV news makes me so sad sometimes.

Those numbers represent many fewer viewers than Men of a Certain Age (average 2MM/episode), about the same as Terriers, and, if I remember correctly, way more than Party Down.

  8. Party Down in the second season was consistently well below those numbers.  (300K on a good week).  That was part of the reason Starz pulled their shows from Netflix Watch Instantly.  As I noted on Twitter, at least as of Sunday, my local target had "Party Down: The Complete Series" for $14.99, which is a STEAL.

Terriers opened with 1.6M, but declined to 784K by the finale.
