LITTLE IN COMMON BESIDES FRANK LANGUAGE AND VIOLENCE; A FASCINATION WITH CRIME; A CONSISTENTLY HIGH LEVEL OF ACTING; AND AN HBO PEDIGREE:  Matt Zoller Seitz concludes Vulture's 16-show tournament by resolving whether The Sopranos or The Wire was the greatest tv drama of the last 25 years.

Reminder: tomorrow on Wire Wednesday, we conclude season one with "Sentencing."

  1. Few things on the internet have angered me even though I knew they were pointless and I shouldn't get angry like that bracket taking Mad Men over Buffy and the terrible argument used for it. I was also saddened to see FNL fed to Breaking Bad and the Buffster have to stake Al Swearengen in the first round, but Draper over Summers - and I love me some Mad Men - really bothered me.

There were some really nice pieces in that tournament, though, including MZS's final and some I really enjoyed despite not expecting it (X-Files vs. West Wing).

  2. Can someone please tell me if there are any spoilers in the article w/r/t "The Wire"?  I'm half-way through the final season and don't want to know how it ends.  (I've seen "The Sopranos.")

  6. Thanks for asking this, Scott!  I'm at the start of season three and have been reading the Vulture articles carefully, skimming over the Wire sections to avoid spoilers.  But I'll avoid this article entirely now so I don't get spoiled at all on The Wire.  I'll just peek at the end to find out the winner.
