I do love that Hartman bit, but for my fave, I still have to go with Debbie Downer. Dratch trying to say "It's official... I can't have children" is absolutely epic.
That sketch- those five minutes- are what I would consider the peak of both Dratch and Lohan's careers. Dratch has been funny since, but never more than this, and never again in a way that really seemed promising. At the same time, This is right when Lohan went from 'What do you mean, cocaine?' to 'Have you seen what she looks like now?'
According to the Stefon Wiki article, the only time Hader didn't break as Stefon is when he showed up for 30 seconds in one of the Timberlake episodes. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stefon) And yes, John Mulaney, who writes the Stefon stuff does a total rewrite after dress, and considers making Hader break part of the challenge.
What's great about that clip, Adam, is seeing the one later on with Spade and Applegate losing it and Hartman is just a damn rock.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm going to miss Bill Hader's losing it face.

ReplyDeleteI suppose I had noticed this before, but... Hader breaks a lot.

ReplyDeleteAlso, brilliantly funny.
All I can think of is the 30 Rock with Tracy saying "Uh oh, I'm breaking!"
ReplyDeleteWas there a Stefon sketch where Hader didn't break?
No, but to be far, they would change the cue cards on him between dress and the live show, so I think that was the point.
