DIRNDL AT 1:15: Fuller The Sound of Music promo, including explicit confirmation that this is a televised version of the stage production, not a remake of the movie.
Why, why, why on earth would they do that to anyone? Who on earth wants their voice held up next to Audra's? I mean like Aretha would probably be fine or something, but that's a short ass list.
The one thing that has always eluded me about this--I get Underwood--she has a fan base, she's pretty, and can sing--but why the hell Stephen Moyer? He's not a terribly big name aside from the True Blood fanatics, doesn't have much known singing ability, and isn't going to put butts on sofas. I'm sure in their ideal world, they wanted to get Hugh Jackman, but why not go with someone who was either a big name or a theatre star?. (To be far, male musical theatre stars of that age who'd read OK as the Captain aren't exactly common.)
He seems like a nice enough chap, but doesn't he come off as a little young for the Captain (though Moyer, who I somehow didn't know is British, is 44).
Moyer sounds fine in the clip, and it isn't as if Christopher Plummer's voice is all that and a bag of chips. Carrie Underwood sounds awful - and she DOES have a ridiculously high bar to live up to. I can't decide if I'm going to watch this or not...
Oh Randy, I'm not sure you want to see this...
