WHAT'S FOR LUNCH?  Consumer Reports has their occasional survey of fast food places up, and top honors go to Chicago-based Portillo's Hot Dogs, with Firehouse Subs and Schlotzsky's right behind, and McDonald's all the way at the back of the pack.  I'm sure there's stuff to argue about--Sonic beneath Wendy's?  Chipotle over Qdoba?  The razor close margin between Five Guys and In-N-Out?

I think Five Guys would do better with a chain if they didn't cook their fries in peanut oil. I don't understand the appeal.

Sonic makes great drinks -- the Cherry Limeade is the bomb -- but their burgers are really pretty vile.

  3. Eh. For the most part not enough spread between the listed to be statically relevant. Decent fast food tends to be fairly homogenous, which these results seem to represent.

Personally not a fan at all of Firehouse. Everything else seems reasonable to me. Love Chik Fil A.

There are a lot of made up kinds of sandwiches they talk about on tv, but don't exist in real life. Sub, hero, grinder, etc. Everyone knows that a sandwich on a long roll is called a hoagie.

Maybe in Philly and environs but not in most of the country.
