IT ISN'T FAIR. IT ISN'T NICE:  What A Straight Man's Favorite Musical Says About Him, for McSwys, by former child actress Mara Wilson.

  1. Joseph Finn5:47 PM

Watts sent this to me a little while ago after asking what my favorite musical is* and apparently I broke Ms. Wilson's scale. (But as a large fan of his, the Jason Robert Brown line is pretty damn great.)

*Movie: Seven Brides For Seven Brothers (sorry, Linda Holmes), Stage: Assassins.

  2. The Pathetic Earthling6:49 PM

I think that last one says you are Going to the Lordy.

    I am so glad.

  3. Joseph Finn6:52 PM

Wait...does that mean I get to be Ambassador to France?

  4. bill.6:58 PM

movie: Seven Brides For Seven Brothers
stage: Candide or Cannibal: The Musical
only know by album: Randy Newman's Faust.

You need to work on your list, Mara.

  5. The Pathetic Earthling8:06 PM

Until President Garfield screws you out of the post, yes.

This made me love Mara Wilson even more than I did already, which I didn't think was possible. Her Ira Glass saga is also pretty great. (starts here but read the two updates after: http://marawilsonwritesstuff.com/an-open-letter-to-ira-glass/)

  7. Eric J.10:03 PM

    Everybody's got the right.

  8. Tosy and Cosh9:41 AM

My college audition monologue was an edited (by me) version of Booth's scene with Oswald. If you think about it it's pretty one-sided. How long did it take you to realize the opening carousel melody is "Hail to the Chief?" It took me a shockingly long time.

  9. Tosy and Cosh9:42 AM

    Don't get me started.

  10. On musicals or the writer of the article?

  11. Tosy and Cosh10:26 AM

On anything. According to her. ;) (I'm a Sweeney guy.)

  12. Joseph Finn10:28 AM

Probably the second time I listened to the album, I think.

  13. Tosy and Cosh10:39 AM

    Better than me . . . ;)
