AVAILABLE AT 10, 2, and 4: At least for a limited time, Dr Pepper (my soda of choice)
will offer an old school product, with packaging and slogans inspired by earlier years, and with sugar rather than high fructose corn syrup as a sweetener. Dr Pepper is unique in that sugar-based soda (as opposed to HFCS) continues to be available regardless--at least
within 44 miles of Dublin, Texas.
Call me when the real Mr. Pibb returns.
ReplyDeleteYeah, what is this "Pibb X-tra" crap?
ReplyDeleteFound a stash of Mexican Coke at my grocery store. I try to stay away from soda, but damn Mexican Coke gets me everytime.
ReplyDeleteWe recently saw a whole display of Mexican Coke (the year-round version of Passover Coke) at a South Jersey Wegman's. I'm the same way, KR.
ReplyDeleteMan, I used to drink Dr. Pepper every day on the way to school -- which could be why I was a total spaz.
ReplyDeleteMr. Pibb is regional, right? In certain states, you're drinking Pepp, in others Pibb? Why?
Having just read about the competition between the two, I don't believe I've ever seen them in the same bank of coolers, ever. Weird....
ReplyDeleteWegman's is awesome.
ReplyDeleteI believe Mr. Pibb used to be a southern region specialty for Coca-Cola, but the new, pallid version is national.
ReplyDeleteMy brother drank so much Dr. Pepper in high school that Mom put Dr. Pepper/7Up stock in his college fund portfolio.
ReplyDeleteDr. Pepper is a glorious thing. My wife is a Coke fan, I am a Dr. Pepper person. Is there any truth to the "carbonated prune juice" accusation I often hear people say about it?
ReplyDeleteI should note that on this display was a hand-lettered sign explaining exactly why Mexican Coke is so awesome. Which is another reason Wegmans is so awesome.
ReplyDelete(I'm irrationally excited about the fact that two weeks from Sunday a new Wegmans will be opening about 25 minutes from our house -- that'll save us at least 10-15 minutes round trip, plus the bridge toll, vs. the South Jersey store.)

ReplyDeleteMy mother drinks a Dr. Pepper each day at 4 p.m. She will be 89 in October. Whenever my son-in-law visits his folks, he drives within the Dublin bottling company's territory to get her a six-pack of the real deal!
ReplyDeleteI had a not-quite-negative-but-certainly-not-positive experience with Dr. Pepper while under the influence of legal drugs in college. It's been hard to come back from.
ReplyDeleteThere is no Wegman's close to me and that makes me sad.
