FOR CAESAR RODNEY, PUNKIN CHUNKIN AND DOGFISH HEAD 60 MINUTE IPA: Today is
Delaware Day, celebrated annually to commemorate its becoming the first state to ratify the United States Constitution on December 7, 1787. Back in October 2008,
our friend George suggested things the Tampa Bay Devil Rays should do during their unscheduled World Series off-day marooned in Wilmington.
A couple of years ago, I was in Wilmington for a trial. The client, in an effort to save money, opted to have the team (myself, two partners, and a paralegal, plus various witnesses) stay in the Doubletree rather than the Dupont. I didn't mind, not only because the Doubletree was more than adequate to my needs, but because opposing counsel was staying at the Dupont, and, let's be honest, that ain't an optimal situation. However, this angered the senior partner on the matter, who repeatedly referred to Wilmington generally and the hotel in particular as a "s**thole." (Amusingly, even though we had the smaller trial team and stayed at the inferior hotel, we won the case--oral argument on the appeal is in February in Philly.)

ReplyDeleteI just checked the dates of admittance into the Union and Delaware has Pennsylvania by 5 days. I knew Delaware was first but something from my elementary school's PA history lesson, I felt like they beat us by a matter of hours. As a result, I've had a 25+ year resentment of the Delaware the line-cutters. Stupid Delaware....(kicking dirt and muttering)
ReplyDeleteI can't resent Delaware. It's the home of tax free shopping!!
ReplyDeletePlus, it's one of the funniest off-the-wall jokes in Wanye's WOrld.
ReplyDeleteYou won't be able to convince me that Delaware actually exists. It is a fiction, created by the Trilateral Commission for its own nefarious purposes.
ReplyDeleteBest part? According to the Atlas of the DC Universe, Metropolis is located in Delaware.
ReplyDeletePshaw. New Hampshire is the state that really matters. We were the ninth and deciding signator of the Declaration, thus entering it into law.
ReplyDeleteNow now, Rhode Island finally got around to it a year later.
ReplyDeleteThat's crazy talk!
