ReplyDeleteIt's apparently a straight play, rather than a musical, which kind of makes sense. Of course, were it a musical, I'd picture it starting kind of like this.

ReplyDeleteIt's not strictly Guevara--it's "Che," the narrator character played by Mandy Patinkin in the original production and by Antonio Banderas in the film.
ReplyDeleteI'm on board with the play, but I don't know where they're going to find someone with the firthiness of Colin Firth. Even with a stutter he's just so... firthy.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why they didn't just drop the Che name for the movie; Evita to me is much more interesting once your drop the remnants of the Guevera persona from the original tryouts.<span> </span>
ReplyDeleteI want to know when Raul Esparaza is going to take over from Ricky Martin. 'Cause I don't want to see it until that happens.
ReplyDeleteThe likelihood of Esparza taking over a role seems pretty low (even one as prestigious as Che). He pretty clearly desperately wants a Tony, and you don't get one for being a replacement. Seriously, dude got jobbed when he lost to David Hyde Pierce.
ReplyDeleteI suspect you're right, but wonder if this could be the role to make an exception for. Either way, I'm not sure I have an interest in seeing Martin in that role, but as a Mandy Patinkin acolyte I'm more-than biased. ;)
