That was a great sketch. Speaking of Baldwin, his three top grossing films are <span> <span></span></span><span><span>"Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" ($604m) "Pearl Harbor" ($449) "The Departed" ($290).</span></span>
Google the Kevin Pollack Chat show and dig up the Titus Welliver episode. He does spot-on Pacino impressions at 4 different spots in Pacino's career. It's crazy aweesome.
Yes, Daniel Day-Lewis was going to be my nominee. If there is scenery, he is chewing the bejeezus out of it. My personal favorite hammy line of his is from the end of The Crucible, when he bellows: LEAVE ME MY NAME!!!!
My personal favorite Pacino impression is the one-word "FUNNY!" that Kevin Spacey did in his episode of Inside the Actor's Studio. I start laughing just thinking about it.

Hey there! I've been reading your blog for a long time now and finally got the bravery to go ahead and give you a shout out from New Caney Texas! Just wanted to mention keep up the good job!
Toss in John Lithgow and I'm a happy camper.
ReplyDeleteDamn!! I was twenty minutes late for Lithgow.
ReplyDeleteBut I'll add Nathan Lane.
ReplyDeleteI'll see your Nathan Lane and raise you one Robin Williams.
ReplyDeleteThis list is incomplete without Jeremy Irons, who only doesn't overact if he is a cartoon lion.

Laura Linney in anything, and especially The Big C, needs to be on this list.
ReplyDeleteI was going to say Nathan Lane. Robin Williams overacts in comedy, but he over-underacts in drama.
ReplyDeleteMeryl Streep, Sally Field.
Daniel Day-Lewis, particularly in There Will Be Blood. Whole lotta acting going on there.
ReplyDeleteLaura Linney, I disagree, except yes, in The Big C, where she seems to be constantly overdoing to distract from the show itself.
Curious that Seitz doesn't mention Brando's performance in The Missouri Breaks, which to my mind is The Big Guy's weirdest of all.
ReplyDeleteDid anyone else see Alec Baldwin on Fallon the other day doing his Old Pacino/New Pacino impressions? It's hilarious. And online somewhere, I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteZero Mostel.
ReplyDeleteCan we create a numerical scale for the overactingness of a performance where Pacino in The Devil's Advocate is a 1.0?
ReplyDeleteAlong similar lines, Topol. Between Fiddler and Flash Gordon, that is some bigtime chewing of scenery.
ReplyDeleteCoincidentally, "How did this get made?" podcast is reviewing Wicker Man next...
ReplyDeleteI enjoy the recurring SNL sketch where they have various actors auditioning for old movies -- Baldwin as Campy Pacino doing Top Gun was pretty good.
ReplyDeleteSo many sterling examples...
ReplyDeleteThere's this:

ReplyDeleteI wish some of his better movies made more money.

ReplyDeleteEasy there, skippy.

ReplyDeleteVincent D'Onofrio.
ReplyDeleteLove Titus Welliver. Silas's reaction during and after Miss Isringhausen's meeting with Al Swearingen is priceless.
ReplyDeleteJack Lemmon
