I hate to say it, since I'm still annoyed over their dumping Sammy Sosa on the White Sox, but I'm rooting for Arlington. (Plus, rooting against Tony LaRussa is like rooting for puppies and apple pie, or even pumpkin pie. It's 'Merican, daggummit.)
I'm rooting for the Cards. Which means Texas will win, since except for the Yankees, my picks have gone down in flames since the first post-season pitch.
My instinct is that the Rangers are the better team. But, I also think that the Phillies and the Brewers would have beaten the Rangers. The Cardinals just defeated both of those teams, so I have to go with the Cardinals.
Typically,* when my team gets beat out, I tend to hope for the team that beat them to out to run the table, so that I can claim that, really, my team just lost to the Team of Destiny. So: Go, Cards!
*I reserve the right at all times to abandon this strategy when the team that beat my team is detestable.
I more or less feel that way, but LaRussa, ugh. That said, I'm more loyal to the NL than AL in general, so I think I'm rooting for Pujols ... eh. Just give me some good games. Predicting Cardinals in 6, because of Carpenter..
Texas - some great players, and some great wins in the league series (even though I was rooting for the Tigers). But the kiddo is rooting for the Cards, even though Ian Kinsler is one of his favorite players.
I was rooting for the Cardinals against Milwaukee since my distaste for Bud Selig is far stronger than my distaste for LaRussa. But unless it's my team and I'm otherwise neutral, I break the tie in favor of the team that's gone the longest without a championship. Since St Louis just won a few years ago, I'll root Texas.
Rangers all the way, although I predict they will cause me at least one heart attack per game and endless amounts of anxiety along the way. You know you're a Rangers fan when a 10 run lead going into the 9th inning doesn't make you feel entirely comfortable about the outcome.
I'm not a LaRussa fan, but otherwise I do like the Cards. I root for Josh Hamilton because I desperately want his story to have a happy ending, but otherwise I hate Texas. So it's not that hard.
Who I don't got: people (ESPN) complaining about the matchup. Boo hoo, you have to cover baseball that is not in Boston or New York. That is your job, gentlemen, so stop whining about it.
I'd prefer St. Louis but I think it's Texas' year.

ReplyDeleteWe've got Pujols, Holliday, Molina, Burkman, Carpenter, et. al. GO CARDS
ReplyDeleteGo Cards!!!
ReplyDeleteTexas, both on the merits and because we dislike them less.

ReplyDeleteSt. Louis. But only because my brain inserts a Beavis and Butt-head laugh every time I hear "Pujols."
ReplyDeleteI giggle uncontrollably. What's even funnier is I had to point it out to my husband.

ReplyDeleteNow you're starting to sound like a Phils' fan.
ReplyDeleteLet me assure you, we Braves fans had similar feelings, at least toward the end of the season. Dammit.

As a Mariners fan, I say "what's a 10-run lead?"
ReplyDeleteCards all the way. Family in St. Louis have had a craptastic year, so it'd be great if they could have something to root for.
ReplyDeleteThe All Blacks
ReplyDeleteFrench team watches haka; surrenders.
ReplyDeleteHell, Stanford once refused to take the field against Cal for fear of getting hurt. The French are a step above that.
ReplyDeleteI hope they both lose.
ReplyDeleteShhhhh! It's the most endangered species of the northwest, a Mariners fan in the wild. Look at that beautiful plumage!
ReplyDeleteAnd also cuter.
