NO, THIS EVENT IS NOT IN CAVE-IN-ROCK, ILLINOIS: As noted in a few threads previously, some NYC ThingThrowers, including myself, are gathering this weekend. Current plan is to meetup at the American Museum of Natural History (North/Rose Center entrance) around 2 PM on Saturday afternoon and hang out there for a few hours, followed by burgers, beverages, and other deliciousness across the street at Shake Shack after the museum closes at 5:45 (additional merriment may follow). Folks are welcome to join for either or both parts of the event. Feel free to hit me up on Twitter if you want/need more info.

DC threadjack: I've received just two emails from DC-area Throwers. If you want to be included in emails re: a DC meetup, send me a note at russhanser at yahoo dot com.
ReplyDeleteThis NY-area ThingThrower has an 8-day old in the house, so will alas have to pass. I'm also bummed that the roundtable intro post happened while I was . . . occupied.
ReplyDeleteI'll be in town visiting and will be there. I also plan to be one of the instigators of any post-Shake Shack shenenanigans. It's a Saturday night in the city that never sleeps and I'm on vacation. Way-hey.
ReplyDeleteI am unlikely to be there as I am overbooked this weekend. However, if my other plans coincide on the UWS, I'll buzz you, Matt.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your new distraction!!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to try to do a bit of museum time and then sneak off to work and meet up for drinks after. Watts, you'll keep me posted as to your location, yes?
ReplyDeleteI would be so there if I weren't going to DC for the weekend! Damn.
ReplyDeleteOh man, I wish I could go! I've been wanting an NYC Thing Thrower gathering. Alas, I've already made plans to go apple picking on Saturday.
ReplyDeleteHurrah!
ReplyDeleteMazel tov!!!
ReplyDeleteOkay, so let's plan a Brooklyn Thing Thrower gathering! We can meet in hipsterville or really anywhere that people suggest - unless you don't make a suggestion and then I'll pick a place. Who's in?
ReplyDeleteKR - I'll be staying in Brooklyn Fri-Mon, so if your schedule opens up and you want to stay local, give me a buzz.
ReplyDeleteAye, aye - and for anybody else that wants in on Saturday Night Socializing - email me at amywatts at the gmail.
ReplyDeleteIn so many ways, when I'm at the reference desk I do not come across as me.
ReplyDeleteYes, I would love a Brooklyn (or another Manhattan) gathering, just anytime after this weekend! I'm back on the red-eye sunday night/monday AM, and then am not leaving the 5 boroughs again til Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteBrooklyn suggestions: Pacific Standard on 4th Ave (just a couple blocks south of Atlantic Terminal, near LOTS of trains), in hipsterville, I like the Roebling Tea Room (Roebling & Metropolitan).
Thank you, Watts - but I live in Brooklyn! I just have a friend in town, a wedding, a dinner and tix to Kathy Griffin!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing some thing-throwers at the museum at 2pm (will there be a sign? A carnation in Matt's lapel? Inquiring minds want to know.) Can't stay very long, the ball-in-chain will be watching the rug rats and they will be napping at two, but since the meet-up in the the 'hood anyway, figured it might be nice to see some of the real-life-internets people.
ReplyDeleteKate - I'm easy to spot - I'm only 4'10" and am likely to be wearing purple cowboy boots. Looking forward to seeing you Saturday.
ReplyDeleteThank you Watts! I'm booked all day but hope to join everyone for the post-food socializing.
ReplyDeleteCool - let me know how I can tell you where we end up.
ReplyDeleteOOh, I went up to Warwick Winery two weeks ago and the leaves were JUST beginning to change. It was gorgeous. I bet this weekend is going to be extraordinary. Enjoy! The apples are delish.
ReplyDeleteI think I will try to be there as well. NYC is about new adventures for me, and this is as good of one as I can imagine...
ReplyDeleteDude, do you have ANY idea how many people in NYC have purple boots and are 4'10"?
ReplyDeleteI think I'll be able to come in from Jersey for this. Hope so!
ReplyDeleteSo, how did it go??
ReplyDeleteHi KR,
ReplyDeleteAn excellent time was had by all. I was only able to stay for two hours, but it was nice to meet everyone.
Agreed--all were lovely people, as you'd expect! We'll do it again for those who couldn't make it!
