FEAR THE MUSTACHE: In this video, supporters of interim San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee justify his reversal on a previous decision not to see election to a full term, arguing that the legitimacy he has demonstrated in office requires that he not quit now:
[The campaign finance lawyer in me notes that this is an independent expenditure ad, not a campaign buy, and San Franciscans for Jobs and Good Government is principally funded by angel investor Ron Conway and that Sean Parker. The baseball fan in me wonders if we're at Brian Wilson's 15th minute yet.]
I'm a Giants fan and a Brian Wilson fan, but your point is well-taken. Opportunistic weirdness is only cool when combined with brilliance. We shall see how it goes next season...
ReplyDeleteUN PRESIDENT TIM KALEMKARIAN, US PRESIDENT TIM KALEMKARIAN, US SENATE TIM KALEMKARIAN, US HOUSE TIM KALEMKARIAN: BEST MAJOR CANDIDATE.
ReplyDeleteSorry, Tim Kalemkarian, you are manifestly *NOT* 2 LEGIT 2 QUIT
ReplyDeleteWilson isn't the funniest guy in the world (and he's not as funny as Brandon McCarthy), but he's funnier than the average baseball player. And he has the ability to surprise a little bit, like when he had the guy in the Gimp suit walk through his apartment during a video interview, or when he can actually do a little of the MC Hammer dance. Baseball players have so little personality that I'll take anything. Ergo: Better an opportunistically weird Wilson than a Wilson who is exactly like every other reliever in baseball.
ReplyDeleteIncidentally, I was pro-alternate identities for Clinton Portis too.
So I read this blog, sports blogs and tech blogs. Sports blogs were going crazy over Wilson and Jed York. The tech blogs were crazy over MC Hammer and Marissa Mayer. I saw coverage of this add in most media and blog outlets I read. I'd consider that a very successful ad.
ReplyDeleteI am expecting this video will be more successful than "Farouk is on Fire."
