HE CAN FIRE THEM ALL AT THE END OF EVERY WEEK--IT'S IN HIS CONTRACT: With the early renewal, writing is underway for the second season of The Newsroom, and Aaron Sorkin has apparently fired pretty much all of the writer's room.  Not sure how much this will help, since only episode 3 had a co-writing credit (former MTV News correspondent Gideon Yago), but it at least indicates that there are going to be some changes in season 2.

  1. Been kind of busy lately, so only seen Episode 1.  Really wasn't impressed.  Not feeling inspired to watch further, but my wife is still somewhat interested, so I probably will.  Did anyone see this absolutely scathing takedown of Sorkin the other day?  http://www.salon.com/2012/07/19/aaron_sorkin_versus_frivolity/

I hate all the "the only person he didn't fire was his ex" talk.  Corinne is a talented writer, not just a girl he dated.  (I do understand that makes it more of a story, but still...)

Didn't most of the writing staff quit at the beginning of Studio 60, followed by most of the staff quitting or getting fired at the beginning of Newsroom?  I guess you write what you know.

In the beginning of the West Wing (well, season 2, but flashback before season 1), everybody but Toby got fired.

The thing that I find most interesting/irksome about this story is that they're writing *now*. At the current season is going, they'll end in what, September 2011? If they're breaking the second season now, and this giant the called the presidential election isn't until November, won't most of the season be written or at least outlined by then? In which case, does that mean I'm going to have to spend several hours of summer 2013 watching a rehash of the circus that was the Republican primary? Because watching will McEvoy yell about Newt Gingrich and say that it's okay because he's a Republican is not something I'm going to enjoy doing.

I don't think they have a choice. They probably have to start shooting by October to have the next season ready by June 2013. Maybe the last episode can be left to finish off the presidential race, but not much more than that.

No, he's just going to quit the news to run Huntsman's communications team.
