BOMP! (X 2): We have
teams for the next installment of TAR, in which teams will be seeking a doubled prize--$2 million. Among the teams? Married professional monster truck drivers, a double amputee pro snowboarder and her boyfriend, two Chippendales dancers, and a former member of Megadeth and his friend, an entertainment lawyer. Plus? Don't think there's a single person who describes their profession as "model!"
I'm already rooting for the monster truck drivers.
ReplyDeleteAnyone know of a site where the oddsmakers weigh in? Not the odds of any given team winning, mind you -- rather, the odds of which team(s) we're going to scream and throw things at.
ReplyDeleteSomething about the description "Goat Farmers / Life Partners" made my morning.
ReplyDeleteMore interesting if they're "Goat Partners / Life Farmers"
ReplyDeleteThe $2 Million is only if the team that wins the first leg ends up winning the race. One person said it's happened 6 times (which sounds about right), so a roughly 30% chance of a payout. I don't think it really has much of a game theory implication though, as I'm pretty sure 90% of teams try their best to win the first leg anyway.
ReplyDeleteThey already encourage winning the first leg because the winner gets the magical doohickey, right?
ReplyDeleteI want twelve teams like Gus & Hera, and a race that's structured like a race.
The Express Pass has been the reward for winning Leg 1 for a couple of seasons now, but it doesn't have unlimited value--it can only be used up to a certain leg.
ReplyDeletePerhaps a better formulation? Winning team gets $1M + $100K for each prior leg in which they finished first. This changes strategy a bit, since winning individual legs becomes more important than the "not last" strategy that a number of teams have played to good effect in the past.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing the Express Pass goes away if there's now a significant financial incentive to win the first leg.
ReplyDeleteAt least one team will know how to drive a stick shift!
ReplyDeleteI'm just pleased there aren't any reality "star" players thrown in this season. Or did I miss anyone? The famous in their own minds players were ruining the Race for me.
ReplyDeleteThe Goat Farmers/Life Partners apparently had a reality show on one of Discovery's infinite networks. Discovery cancelled it, but Cooking Channel has greenlit a third season.
ReplyDeleteCurses!
ReplyDeleteWhy not eliminate eliminations? Cast fewer, stronger teams, assign points for order of finish both for challenges and at the pit stop, and have the point leaders win the big bucks at the end of the season.
ReplyDeleteAlso, looking at the Wiki for all the other versions of this show globally, the Vietnamese one is interesting in choice of Phil-a-like (Dustin Nguyen) and prize (300,000,000 dong).
All I really want is more airport mojo where it matters.
ReplyDeleteThe goat farmers/ life partners show was on Planet Green and was actually quite cute. Interestingly before they were goat farmers one was a doctor that worked for Martha Stewart and the other wrote a pretty good memoir about his time as a drag queen. So, I imagine they will be interesting!
