AN OCCASIONAL FRIDAY ROLL CALL:  On what level of Candy Crush Saga are you currently stuck?  And is there a name for that thing you create when you line up five in a row? (92, and "I don't know" which is why I'm asking.)

184, although this one doesn't feel like stuck so much as beatable, just not yet by me, and I don't know, but I really want to eat one.

  3. Cleared the 95 quests last night. Currently on 98.

350, for about 5 days now. I can theoretically see how it could be beaten but I'm not getting it done. I call that five thing a candy ball.

  5. 91 and losing patience quickly. I don't know what that thing is but I am annoyed that squishing two chocolate sprinkles together doesn't just instantly let you win the level.

  6. Oh, no. I hadn't seen this game. And just in time for me to be completely addicted to a new game while on vacation at the end of the month. Not sure whether to thank you, or curse you, Adam.

65 is the level which had me near-quitting. The chocolate just spreads so fast.

117 and I call it s sprinkled Munchkin. Damn, that chocolate is annoying.

  9. 1. Never heard of it.
    2. How about a quintaboodle?

  10. I call the striped candies 4-baggers and the nonpareils 5-baggers. The wrapped candies are LTs based upon the two 3x3 configurations to make them and in honor of Lawrence Taylor for the damage they do?

Is anybody else having issues with CCS "misinterpreting" your moves and giving you the shittier option of the two or more possible moves? Yeah, I'm playing it on a 2.5 x 4 inch screen, but I really don't think that's it.

105, and I kind of think of them as Munchkins with sprinkles.

I gave up around 103 a couple of months ago. These days I'm playing Gems Journey on Android, which has most of the same features, but no in-game purchases or limits to how many rounds you can play.

As a side note, I am hating the 100s levels generally because the bombs are so flukey that you can end up losing a game in 20 seconds, which makes the 5 lives go by too quickly. Very annoying.

  14. 97 on my iPod, 30 on my phone. Haven't been paying enough attention to know if the levels are different in the different versions.

I call them "Disco Bombs" - which has nothing to do with candy, but is what they look like to me.

I look at the 5-lives limit as a way of reminding me to STOP PLAYING THE DAMN GAME FOR A WHILE.

  15. The one "trick" I've found. You can bail on an untimed level before you make a move by hitting your phone's 'back' key without losing a life. So, I've been passing on several boards at a time until I get one with a good weapon setup / jelly removal first move.

  16. 182...although I think I should be through it fairly quickly. Level 167 was my albatross though. Took me three weeks. I was on the subway when I finally made it with 7 moves to spare.
And it's called a cookie ball.

181 and I hate it with a white hot passion! I know what has to be done, but just can't make it happen. I "quit" for a month and thought, "hmmm...maybe if I jut play casually..." Nope.

I call them big fat candy balls.

    ReplyDelete
  18. And how much have you spent to date on the game? :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. 161 and I've been here way too long. Might just quit the game, at this point. It's been 5 days...and after reading Kate's thoughts on 167...

I hope that not a soul has spent money on this game but I know people do. I blew through all my boosts really early on because I just assumed you would get more. You don't need them.

  21. 92. I get really addicted for a week or so, and then I can't touch the game for another week. Then I start missing it again and begin the addiction again.

Do I have an abusive relationship with Candy Crush?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I use the candy crusher one when I'm on one of the jelly levels and have one or two jelly squares left. I try to do it myself, but when I'm stuck at the level and can't figure it out, out comes the candy crusher.

I'm on the quests to move on to level 156, which means that I've been stuck on level 134 again for the past few days.

I call the five-in-a-rows disco balls.

This game is brilliantly stupidly addicting. It pairs well with soma.

Here is my trick, happened upon by accident by my kids playing and then abandoning in the middle: if you have a life left when you're done playing, go and open a level 1 game and play a few moves. When you're ready to play, finish the game and exit - you'll have 6 lives instead of 5, thus enabling you to waste more of your life.

    (Level 162. Stuck stuck stuck.)

98 and I've temporarily given up and am devoting my time to helping my daughter with her Nemo Reef. Which is even worse.

  26. Sheila12:53 PM

I thought they were "officially" called color bombs, but now that I think about it I don't know where I got that. I know I didn't make it up myself. I'm currently on level 225. My husband is up at 324 and trying to catch up to the construction zone. Needless to say, we have both wasted a LOT of time with this game, but so far no money!

p.s. What the heck is a quest?

  28. The two days of waiting to clear 3 replay levels to unlock the next set of levels. This is where you take the time to practice on old levels and earn those 2nd and 3rd stars. Or, you know, get caught up on your real life.

  29. Second quest after 335 and completely stuck (15 seconds to make 150000 points -- what the hell?). I hate the timed levels. They make me anxious.

Candy ball. And the brown squares that multiply? Chocolate turds.

  30. 221, for a lot of days now. My girlfriend claims that they are called Chocolate Bombs.

  31. the answer is CURSE

I'd managed to resist until this post and now see an addiction in my future.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Sheila4:41 PM

I know, I resisted for a long time too... just thought it was one of those stupid games that someone like me (who knows what that means, exactly) would never play. And my husband roped me in so he would have someone who could always give him a ticket to the next level and I realized how many of my friends were playing and I got addicted myself. Just when you start to get sick of it they introduce a new twist.

Was just thinking the same thing: curse you, Adam.

I started My Muppets Show earlier this week, which is pretty boring, but I'm a sucker for anything Muppet related.

My Muppets Show? (I am also a sucker for anything Muppet related.)

I suppose I need something to occupy myself until the next book comes out in that Song of Ice and Fire series that this blog introduced me to. Sigh.

  38. Emily5:05 PM

Yep. You arrange the Muppets on a stage for a show. It's not very exciting or challenging, but it is time consuming. https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/my-muppets-show/id618376844?mt=8

I also played Torect a lot about a year ago. It's more challenging (some of the levels, at least).

I don't think you can imagine how bizarre this thread is to someone who has never even seen this game.

  40. 147 and I've been stuck here for at least a week, maybe more like two.

  41. Heather k7:44 PM

I stopped playing games on my phone a few years ago when I od'ed on bejeweled blitz. Although I made a baby quilt this summer that everyone told me looked like candy crush so that is what I named it.

Although quilting is what I do now when I used to play games like that so I guess I'm stuck on a level that way too.

  42. 169. Just got here, but have a feeling I'm going to be here a LONG TIME. Frankly, don't see how it's doable, at the moment. I call them sprinkle candies.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I don't see what's so hard about it -- just create and switch two striped candies, then one striped and one pouched, then switch a striped candy with a chocolate bomb. Oh, and don't let the chocolate flow stop you. Simple! :-)

(I just tried re-doing it, and I can't remember how I pulled it off either, except to say that I don't buy powerups, so it's doable.)

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'm actually past it already, quicker than I thought. My assumption was based on the (wrong) assumption that even once I got the three combos that it would be impossible to hit the points (which has happened to me before). But turns out getting the combos = getting the points. Before this, the killer, forever level for me was the one where you have to collect lots and lots of blues. Was on that one forever. Not a fan of the "fill the order" levels.

I'm on 152 but I just got there yesterday. I was on 147 for a few weeks. I know nothing of these "quests." Is this an android thing? This is the point on an iPhone or facebook when you ask for help from friends, yes?

    ReplyDelete
  46. andrewraff11:59 AM

It seems that quests are only available on the iPhone if you're CCS is not linked to Facebook -- if you get to the end of an episode when linked to Facebook, your options are to buy access or ask friends for help. If you're not linked to Facebook, you can buy access, link to Facebook, or play quests -- defeat 3 previous levels. The catch with the quests is that you have to wait 24 hours before you can move on to the next quest.

    110, though I've beat it a bunch of times. But I haven't three-starred it, and that's a thing with me. I don't know why.

I'm actually hooked on a thing called Mirrors of Albion, though, which I am playing WAY too much.

  49. gtv20002:10 PM

In the 250s and never spent a dime (although it's been tempting when I need one more move to clear a tough level). I call them power balls.
