I'm 45 and Toni Tennille was one of my first boyhood crushes. I think I wore out the grooves out on my 45 of "Love Will Keep Us Together." Who get's custody of Muskrat Sussie and Sam?
If you follow the "her blog" link in the article, then go to the home page from there, you get a rather understanding and conciliatory statement about the divorce. Then scrolling down to the bottom of the page you find that the site is maintained by a "Frank Dragoninni". A brother or cousin that didn't adopt the family's nom-de-showbiz? The family may be in on it. http://www.captainandtennille.net/index.shtml
Wow, I would not at all be surprised if bd's comment were on the mark. As for relevance, I'm 43 -- not only do I remember them, I remember their TV variety show on ABC; not only do I remember their TV variety show, I remember a specific skit with David Soul (also then an ABC star) parodying Starsky and Hutch, as Staircase and Hutch.
Although almost 44, I have pretty strong memories of these guys. It helps that I have a sister three years my senior, so my memory probably digs a bit deeper into the early-1970s pop oeuvre than many of my contemporaries. (Set me up with Air Supply on karakoe and I'm good to go!).
I'm 39 and I remember them, but maybe because of Love Boat? Also, Mom always listened to pop music in the car, so I knew Love Will Keep Us Together from way back.
Is there an equivalent of premorse for divorce? I had no idea they were still together.
ReplyDeleteYOUR NAME IS DARYL DRAGON AND YOU NEED A STAGENAME!?
ReplyDelete45, maybe. My remembrance of C&T is pretty much zilch.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I'm 40 this year and have heard of C&T, but couldn't name anything they've done.
ReplyDeleteKudos on the tagline. It made me laugh. Which then sent me into a paroxysm of coughing. But you couldn't have known, so I don't blame you.
ReplyDeleteI figured the other one was too obvious.

ReplyDelete41 and I definitely remember them.
ReplyDeleteAgain?

ReplyDeleteAnd thank you. It pleases to me to no end that my neologism "premorse" has traction around here.
ReplyDeleteAir Supply is, like, 1981? I remember an HBO concert.
