I'M SURE THIS WILL RESOLVE ALL CONTROVERSIES CONCLUSIVELY:  "Disney has created a special committee whose job it will be to figure out what is and isn't part of a complete Star Wars canon — meaning all the [Expanded Universe] material created over the years will be judged, and either become official or deemed invalid."

  2. This is going to be an utter mess for Disney, because there's A LOT of Expanded Universe content in the era that Episodes VII+ would theoretically cover, and some of it contains characters that are beloved to the fandom. (The biggest one being Mara Jade.) It will be VERY difficult for them to make Star Wars movies that touch on the further adventures of the characters in Episodes IV-VI without either retelling the stories or contradicting. My assumption is that the Thrawn trilogy will probably be viewed as canon, and most other post-Episode VI stuff decanonized.

  3. But even legitimizing the Thrawn trilogy cabins what they can do in VII-XI tremendously. I'm frankly surprised that Disney is not simply saying "None of that is canon from the perspective of the movies."

  4. The Thrawn trilogy takes place 9 years post ROTJ, and we can assume that the subsequent film episodes will go 20+ years post ROTJ, so you've got some room to play.

Wow. All of a sudden, Paramount's decision to make only anything on film for Stark Trek (the 6 series and 12 movies) as being official canon, not even including tie-in novels, seems like a good idea.

I really hope the committee consists only of Patton Oswalt and Brian Posehn. And they film the committee meetings. And include them as a DVD extra. Chris Hardwick can moderate.

"Stark Trek" sounds pretty bleak, but I'm intrigued.

It's just basically the Mirror Universe episodes.

The canonicity of The Animated Series is kind of weird. Roddenberry specifically said it wasn't canon, but I think some aspects have made their way into the canon, I believe- Captain Robert April and Catians come to mind. On the other hand, Kzin aren't ever going to be canon.

Wow, I'd forgotten about the Kzin. That just seems weird now, that Larry Niven crossover.
